Apothecary

Apothecaries are the medics of the Space Marines and other Imperium forces. They help heal the wounded and are battle ready. They also help with rituals. Usually equipped with a chainsword they are crucial in combat aiding fallen comrades and making sure the Emperor's followers can continue to spreading his glory.

These space marines usually differ from the color of their Chapter, which can help marines locate him faster if need be. It is unknown if Apothecaries start out as regular marines like Chaplains or begin their careers as medics such as the Librarians begin as psykers.

The Apothecary is well-versed in the arts of battlefield aid as well as advanced surgery, cybernetics and bio-engineering. The Apothecary must be as courageous as his fellow space marines if not more so, for he must perform his life-saving surgeries in the midst of the battlefield. If a Space Marine is injured the Apothecary will use his Narthecium to tend to the wounds. Even severely injured marines can fight again with the aid of the narthecium.

When a fellow space marine is mortally wounded, to the point where no amount of care will bring him back to life, the Apothecary tends to his side, as he prepares the space marine for death. Once dead the Apothecary extracts the gene-seed so that the Space Marine can continue to serve the emperor. Using his reductor, the Apothecary extracts the progenoid organs from the body. It is the Apothecary's duty on the battlefield to retrieve the gene-seed, as they are an essential ingredient in the transformation of a human to Space Marine.
