Minotaurs Contemptor Dred

A Relic Contemptor Dreadnought of the Minotaurs Chapter armed with a Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon and a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon with built-in twin-linked Bolter.

The term Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon refers to a wide variety of over-sized close combat weapons that are used by the various Dreadnought patterns employed by the Adeptus Astartes, their erstwhile kin, the Chaos Space Marines and the Adeptus Custodes.

These massive weapons are specialised in destroying enemies at close quarters, and take the form of massive fists, claws, hammers, shields, drills or blades. The weapons attach to the end of the Dreadnought's weapon arms, or in some cases take up the entirety of the arm itself.

The vast majority of Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons feature built-in ranged weapons such as Storm Bolters or Heavy Flamers.

These weapons, depending on the Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon's size and shape as well as the Dreadnought's chassis pattern, may be built into the weapon arm, attached to the outside of the weapon arm, or fixed onto the Dreadnought's hull.

The term Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon is also sometimes applied to non-human constructed vehicles that fit into the Dreadnought class of combat walkers that are shorter than an Imperial Knight, such as Chaos Daemon Engines, Aeldari Wraithlords and Ork Killa Kans.

The term is also used to encompass the myriad Battle-Automata (robots) of the Adeptus Mechanicus' Legio Cybernetica and other Imperial combat walkers armed with massive close combat weapons.

Notable Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons

Like most Contemptor Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons the Contemptor Chain Fist is also armed with a Combi-Bolter slotted within its palm. The weapon could also be outfitted with a twin-linked Bolter during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-era, or in the case of recently captured or reequipped Dreadnoughts a Storm Bolter.

OsironForceBlade00

An Osiron Dreadnought's Force Blade

  • Osiron Dreadnought Force Blade - The Osiron Dreadnought was a specialised class of Contemptor Dreadnoughts that were once used by the Thousand Sons Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. Osiron Dreadnoughts were created by the Primarch Magnus the Red himself, and each one had the mortally wounded remains of a Thousand Sons Librarian entombed within, his brain laced with a psychometric barrier. This allowed the Dreadnought to perform psychic abilities safely, and as such these Dreadnoughts were equipped with Force Weapons. The most commonly known Force Weapon used a massive curved Force Blade that featured an in-built Combi-Bolter loaded with Asphyx Shells.

So cable were these Power Fists that they weren't even the Dreadnought's main melee weapon; instead they wielded massive Dreadnought-sized versions of the Custodes' Gaurdian Spears or Sentinel Warblades. The robotic hands of their Dreadnoughts were capable of bringing them to bear as well as any Legio Custodes warrior. • Shock Charger - A Shock Charger is a special upgrade that is carried by most Castellax-class Battle Automata. These are not weapons in the traditional sense, instead they are used in conjunction with the Castellax 's Power Fists to augment their combat power, infusing their physical blows with powerful electrostatic discharges which detonate like thunderclaps when striking their target. During the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy-eras, Shock Chargers were standard equipment for a Castellax.
