Inquisitor
From Warhammer 40k
Inquisitors are high ranking members of the Inquisition, the body responsible for ensuring the safety of the Imperium. Split into three main Orders, the Ordo Xenos (Order of the Xeno), Ordo Malleus (Order of the Hammer) and the Ordo Hereticus (Order of the Heretic) the Inquisition is ruthless in tracking down the Imperium's foes and bringing them to justice.
Some Inquisitors gain a higher rank known as an Inquisitor Lord, meaning that they can now take command of other Inquisitors.
[edit] Henchmen
Throughout his career, an Inquisitor will undoubtedly either hire or force into work a number of henchmen or followers. These followers will be things that are not normally seen, such as blanks (people with a negative presence in the Warp), trainee Inquisitors, Servitors, tech-adepts, exceptional Imperial Guardsmen, tech-cherubs, servo-skulls, sages, Astropaths, and so on. some might, be quite common, some might be extremely rare. It varies from Inquisitor to Inquisitor, and largely on personal preference and needs.
Typically, older Inquisitors and Inquisitor Lords have more henchmen than newer Inquisitors.
[edit] Amount of Power
If required, an Inquisitor may call upon the service and/or resources of any Imperial servant or organisation. Not even a High Lord of Terra may refuse the order of an Inquisitor without good reason. This power extends across even the Adeptus Astartes and Adeptus Mechanicus. However, learned Inquisitors show discretion and request the assistance of the Space Marines and attempt not to anger the Adepts of Mars.
Such is their high rank and status that an Inquisitor will often acquire many different artifacts and arcane wargear items throughout their career, which they may keep at their discretion.
Under extreme circumstances, an Inquisitor has the right to exercise his power to condemn a world to the horrors of an Exterminatus.
[edit] Traitors
Some Inquisitors do things completely out of the question. Some say that the best way to fight the heretic, the xeno, and the daemon, is to use that very thing against them. However, these actions are seen as heretical in the extreme, and as such these Inquisitors are declared Excommunicate Traitoris, forever on the run. If captured, they are executed immediately, and then forgotten, their names erased in all but the memories of individuals.
