The Spear of Vulkan
The Spear of Vulkan is one of the nine Artefacts of Vulkan created by Vulkan, the primarch of the Salamanders Legion during the days of the Great Crusade in the late 30th Millennium. The Spear is a mighty relic Power Weapon that takes the form of a huge master-crafted spear, once wielded by Vulkan himself in battle. The incandescent blade of this polearm can set even ceramite ablaze.
Only four of Vulkan's original nine artefacts are still sought by the Salamanders battle-brother chosen by his Chapter to seek out the remaining four Artefacts of Vulkan -- the Forgefather. By the 41st Millennium five of the original nine Artefacts had already been reclaimed by the Chapter through the travails of previous Forgefathers, of which the Spear was one.
The Spear of Vulkan was wielded in battle by the current Forgefather of the Salamanders, Vulkan He'stan.
The weapon has long been coveted by the Necron Overlord Trazyn the Infinite, who has made two separate attempts to claim it, in 878.M41 and during the Tochran Crusade in 943.M41, leading him into conflict with the Salamanders Chapter.
