The Nightbringer

From Warhammer 40k

The C'tan of death, darkness, and destruction. The most evil of the four C'tan, and functionally the most bluntly powerful that is currently active in the universe, since The Void Dragon lays dormant. He is armed with a powerful scythe, and is usually depicted as a dark hooded figure, with gray and black colors.

He hungers for death and destruction, and slaughtered the young races to the point that they learned their fear of death from him. Only the Orks are rumored to have been spared his attentions, and that is why they do not fear death.

The Nightbringer was the first of the C'tan to leave the Necrontyr home star and enter a Necrodermis Body. He found the souls of living beings much more "tasty" than the raw energy of the star. He massacred the Necrontyr and was only stopped with massive persuasion and pledges of servitude. During the War in Heaven the Eldar war god Kaela Mensha Khaine fought The Nightbringer and destroyed him, shattering his necrodermis in countless shards. These shards impaled Khaine tainting him forever, while The Nightbringer simply transferred his essence into another necrodermis.

The Nightbringer was revealed to be buried ten kilometers under the planet of Pavonis in Graham McNeill's Nightbringer, stuck there when it's flagship (called the Bringer of Darkness, a cairn class tombship) was badly injured by an unknown alien fleet and crashed down 60 million years ago then it was awoken then shortly defeated by Uriel Ventris of the 4th Ultramarines company, when he reburied it's tomb under ten kilometer's worth of rock, fulfilling a promise he made when he was fighting it. even when it was very weak from hunger it was able to butcher the space marines, showing us a glimpse of its true power.

The Nightbringer itself, after being forced back into the void by Ventris, fled to a distant part of the galaxy where it began to harvest power from nearby stars, rebuilding its strength.
