Similar in all other aspects to "normal" Space Marines?!?
Black Templars only suffered Navigators and Astorpaths, because they were absolutely necessary. We absolutely loathe Psykers, due to the fact that one miscalculation on their part, and they become corrupt, and become susceptible to possession by Warp filth. Whatever psyker-hugging madman decided we revered psykers needs a summary execution by none of than Old Man Yarrick himself.
Originally, we did not have Scout troops (even though the fluff showed clearly otherwise), nor did we use gun lines with troop choices like Devastators and the like. We also could not access the Legion of the Damned, but then again, that was a bit tolerable for obvious reasons. We were purely an "In your face" army, that forewent range, in favor of righteous fury to cut down our foes in close combat.
We weren't even fully Codex Compliant, as multiple Crusades are active at any given time. If all of the Black Templars were pulled together, their numbers would easily be past the amount required by the Codex's rules.
Another thing that was taken from us, was the ability to have the Blessed Hull upgrade, which made Energy/Blood Lance attacks practically no longer worth the effort to use. The ability to empower every one of our vehicles with this upgrade, as well as Power of the Machine Spirit, was taken from us. Blessed Hull is gone entirely, Machine Spirit is now restricted to very few vehicles. Utter garbage.
They were by basic definition, angry marines, as with their vows, if they were shot at, they could advance upon those shooting them. The only angrier marines would be the Flesh Tearers, but it's debatable. We lost those vows too, btw... The Sword Brethren, while many viewed as overcost troops, had access to weaponry that put them almost on par with Terminators, just lacking the armor and invul saves. Now they are simply the equivalent of "Sergeants". MORE GARBAGE.
The Chaplain Dreadnought was an excellent addition to our ranks, and we lost it just as quickly... it was a decent option if one wanted to sub out a regular chaplain or "Grim". Just droppod that bastard right behind enemy lines and watch him wreak utter havoc.
Similar to other Space Marines indeed, Hmph. We were only forced to be similar because someone couldn't fathom the idea of letting us stay the way we were. So what if everything is changing to ranged and heavy weaponry. I've still got  an average 13/5 Win/Lose rate playing a pure Templar roster. ....similar... A slur towards the Sons of Dorn and the Warriors of Sigismund if there ever was one. Rolling us and giving us errant psyker wretches was a horrible mistake that gravely needs rectifying.
No Pity, No Remose, No Fear!
